Straight Answers to Common Roof Questions
Don't see yours? Ask us. We'd rather you understand the job than feel rushed into it.
Roofing
Repair, replacement and materials
How do I know if I need a repair or a whole new roof?
It depends on the roof's age, how widespread the damage is, and what's going on under the shingles. We'll inspect it, show you photos, and tell you straight. If a repair will do the job, that's what we'll recommend.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most homes take a day or two once work starts, depending on the size of the roof, what we find in the decking, and the weather. We'll give you a realistic timeline with your estimate.
Can you repair my roof?
Yes. Whatever's over your head, we'll take a look, give you a free quote, and a straight answer on what it needs.
What kind of roof do you install?
For new roofs and replacements, we install architectural shingles. They're the most common roof in Taylor, they look better than old three-tab shingles, and they're a solid value. We'll help you pick the color.
What warranty do I get?
There are two kinds. The manufacturer's warranty covers the materials, and the length depends on the product you choose. Our workmanship covers how the roof was installed. We'll explain both in writing before work starts.
What happens if it rains during my job?
We watch the forecast closely and schedule around bad weather. If weather moves in, we make sure your home is protected before we leave for the day.
Storms & insurance
Hail, wind and insurance claims
We just had a hailstorm. What should I do first?
If water is coming in, call us right away. Otherwise, have a local roofer inspect before you file a claim, so you know whether the damage is real and worth filing. Be careful with crews knocking on doors right after a storm.
Will you help with my insurance claim?
We'll inspect the roof and document the damage with photos for your adjuster, and explain what they'll be looking at. The claim itself is between you and your insurance company, and we'll help you understand each step.
How do I tell a local roofer from a storm chaser?
Ask how long they've worked in your town, whether they have a local address and phone number, and who you'll call if there's a problem next year. We've been in Taylor for 50 years, since 1976.
Working with us
Estimates, payment and paperwork
Are estimates free?
Yes. We'll come out, take a look, and give you a written estimate at no cost and with no pressure.
How does payment work?
We'll lay out the payment terms on your written estimate before any work starts, so you know exactly what's due and when. Ask us if you have questions about it.
Do I need a permit for a new roof?
Permit rules depend on your city. Ask us about your address and we'll tell you what applies.
What areas do you serve?
We serve homes within 50 miles of Taylor, including Hutto, Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Austin, Elgin, Bastrop and Rockdale. Not sure if you're in range? Just call.
Pier & beam
Foundation leveling
How do I know if my pier and beam house needs leveling?
Common signs are sloping or bouncy floors, doors that stick or won't latch, and new cracks in walls or ceilings. We'll check under the house and tell you what we find.
Why do houses shift around here?
Central Texas clay soil swells when it's wet and shrinks during dry spells. Over time, that movement pushes piers out of level.
Can you handle my roof and my foundation?
Yes. We do both, so you can work with one trusted local company, and our own two crews, for the top and the bottom of your house.
